Nigeria boosts Biafran Memorial Day celebration with Public Holiday on 30th May

Nigeria boosts Biafran Memorial Day celebration with Public Holiday
The Nigerian government may have inadvertently given a boost to the scheduled Biafran Memorial Day celebration. The Biafran day celebration will be market by Biafrans across the world on the 30th May, 2016, which was the day the Republic of Biafra was officially declared.

Incidentally the Nigerian government has declared Monday, May 30 as public holiday to celebrate the 2016 Democracy Day, which will take place on Sunday May 29.  The Minister of Interior, Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (Rtd) made the declaration on behalf of the Nigerian government on Wednesday in Abuja.

A statement signed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr Bassey Akpanyung, quoted the minister as wishing Nigerians happy democracy day celebration. He assured Nigerians that with the signing into law of the 2016 Appropriation Act, the country would witness a “New Deal” with its full implementation.
The Biafran Memorial Day was initiated by Nnamdi Kanu and the Indigenous People of Biafra in 2014. The ceremony has since then been held. In the 2015 celebration, Nnamdi Kanu addressed a mammoth crowd in Aba, which was the first indication of the massive grassroot support for the restoration of Biafra.

The public holiday declared by Nigeria is expected to aid many working class Biafrans to participate in the scheduled ceremony.
