 Call Buhari and his occupational army to order - Gbaramatu students task international community

The National Association of Gbaramatu Students, (NAGS), has tasked the international community to come to the aid of their people.

This call became necessary following the armed invasion of the Gbaramatu Kingdom by Nigerian troops who they accused of gross human right abuses ranging from looting, raping of their woman and inhuman torture meted to the people resulting from the continued siege and invasion of their community.

In a statement issued by its president, Seiyefa Ekpemupolo, in Warri, made available to journalists , he said, “We have to raise this alarm about the torture, pains and suffering being meted to our people by the military which had laid siege to our kingdom. ''

''We condemn the invasion, as our people are neither militants nor members of the Avengers. We call on the United Nations to call President Buhari and his occupational army to order''.

“Our students are out of school following the invasion and cannot prepare or sit for the common entrance and junior WAEC that will start in days,” it said.

Meanwhile, a member representing Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr. Daniel Reyenieju has urged the military to ensure that collateral damage from the operations was reduced to the barest minimum.

The lawmaker said: ‘’Since last Sunday, I have been inundated with calls by many of those who have been affected negatively by the present military operations, particularly the aged, who are most unlikely to be part of the militants.”


Reyenieju noted the ‘’deep lamentations from my constituents from some of the oil producing communities in the riverine areas of my constituency remain most touchy and painful such that would make anyone to lament, except those whose hearts are made of stones.


’While I am conscious of the fact that the military and the Nigerian state cannot sit down and allow such destruction to go on, in the same vein, I cannot remain not being bothered by the cries of agonies, displacements and fears of death emanating from some of those that I represent.”


“As an individual born, bread and buttered in that environment, which I represent its constituent part that remains the highest oil producing (until recent events), I am conscious of the fact that peaceful approach through honest and constructive dialogue with the peoples of the region devoid of politics remains the most viable option for the achievement of durable peace.”
