Following the tussle between two legal practitioners, Mr. Gabriel Egbule and Vincent Ezechukwu Obete yesterday before the open court over who should be allowed to defend the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, the family of Nnamdi Kanu (Kanunta Kanu, his younger brother) via Radio broadcast of yesterday clarified on the issue.
He confirmed that their family and IPOB stands with Barr Vincent Obete. He also said that they fear that Mr. Gabriel Egbule might have been compromised and being used by the Nigerian government as they do not know what he is up to.
At the resumed hearing of the case at a Magistrate Court in Abuja, Mr. Gabriel Egbule and Vincent Ezechukwu Obete both announced appearance and claimed that they were duly briefed to handle the case.
Egbule, who was the first to announce appearance, told the court that he represented the accused person on October 19, the day he was arraigned.
Obete likewise produced an authorization letter from the IPOB, signed by its Deputy Director, Mr. Alphonsus Mefor.
Following the absence of the accused person, Magistrate Shuaibu Usman ordered the DSS to produce him on November 23, to enable him identify his legal team.
Mr Kanu is standing trial for alleged criminal conspiracy, managing and belonging to an unlawful society and criminal intimidation contrary to sections 97 and 397 of the penal code.
