Photo of the day:Looking back to the past with time-frozen Zik's campaign podium

This classic picture told a lot between modern day politics and those of the past. In the picture above taken in 1956 when the various composing nationalities in Nigeria were passing through a crucial stage, well-dressed Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe (Zik) could be seen supported on a table by two poorly individuals.

A very salient point that immediately jumps out of the picture is the fact that despite the disparity in status, without the support of those two individuals, Zik will collapse from the improvised podium. What is more is that those two individuals are aware of this fact. That also translates to the awareness of the masses then that without their support, the political class will crumble. That made the politicians very responsible.

Fast-forward to today, people have lost this power to influence the politicians. many are very ignorant of the fact that without their support politicians cannot stand. As a result politicians are carrying on with reckless abandon at the detriment of the masses.

Rise up, regain your strength and kick out the corrupt politicians!
