Former Governor of Adamawa state, Murtala Nyako has surrendered himself to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission [EFCC] and is presently under interrogation at the EFCC headquarters for fraud related charges.

Ex-Governor Nyako was declared wanted by EFCC last year following his impeachment on July 16, 2014, over embezzlement of public funds that ran into billions of naira, among other things.

Nyako, who absconded to the United Kingdom upon his being declared wanted, lingered until Muhammadu Buhari, a fellow compatriot in the Army and in the party, All Progressives Congress (APC), was sworn in on May 29 before returning to Nigeria.

Nyako, a retired naval officer, was declared wanted alongside his son, AbdulAziz Murtala Nyako, who was later arrested but was almost immediately released after brief interrogation.

Other key officials of the Nyako-led government who were also quizzed included the then Secretary to the State Government, the State Commissioner for Finance, the Commissioner for Higher Education, the Accountant General of the State and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Local Government.
