Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, was in the Islamic Republic of Sudan for a state visit to Sudan on Tuesday. He was representing his boss General Muhammadu Buhari at the inauguration of a war criminal Sudan’s president Omar al-Bashir.
Omar Hassan al-Bashir, president of Sudan for last 25 years, is re-elected with 94 percent of vote; Western governments say elections, which were boycotted by opposition groups, are not credible.
The International Criminal Court in The Hague had issued several arrest warrants for al-Bashir for war crimes, crimes against humanity and three counts of genocide.
The charges against Mr. Bashir are linked to the conflict in the western Darfur region of Sudan, where an estimated 300,000 people have died and more than two million have been uprooted by almost a decade of fighting between the government and rebels.
Only few Islamic countries are associating with him. Although he did not go in person by sending his Yoruba stooge who claims to be a Christian pastor, Buhari had made a bold statement about his Islamic inclinations.
Perhaps a bold message to his western backers who are trying to catch al-Bashir, who supported Osama bin laden while he used Sudan as a base to train terrorists, including Sanusi Lamido Sanusi and Senator Sani Yarima who brought sharia into a new level in Nigeria.
