Abuja on high alert as Nigerian Government prepares to arraign Nnamdi Kanu today

Abuja on high alert  as Nigerian Government prepares to arraign Nnamdi Kanu today
Abuja Nigeria's capital is on high alert as the Nigerian government prepares to arraign Nnamdi Kanu the leader of the Indigenous People if Biafra (IPOB) today. Fear has gripped the Nigerian Army who believe that a massive protest in Abuja may be staged today by Biafrans.

Kanu was kidnapped by the Nigeria's secret police the Directorate of State Security (DSS), in a Gestapo-styled operation. With increasing pressure from Biafrans over the whereabouts of Kanu, the DSS was forced to secretly arraign him in a magistrate court last month.

Having found him guilty of nothing, the Nigerian government finally charged Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) with a very flimsy accusation.

The counsel to illegally detained Biafran freedom fighter, and director of the Radio Biafra gave details of his secret arraignment, details of the charges against him and the stringent bail conditions.

In an inadvertent justification for the restoration of Biafra, Nigeria could not find any offence tangible to charge Kanu with. It rather charged him for alleged misdemeanor offenses: Criminal Conspiracy, Managing & Belonging to Unlawful Society and Criminal Intimidation contrary to Sections 97, 97b and 397 of the Penal Code (which is applicable in Northern Nigeria).
Massive protests have rocked Biafran cities following Kanu's continued illegal detention by the Nigerian government

Barrister Vincent Egechukwu Obetta gave the details this morning in a mail sent to International Society for Civil Liberties & the Rule of Law (Intersociety), which has been in the forefront of the struggle for Kanu’s release by the Department of State Security (DSS).

According to Obetta in the mail made available to newsmen by the Intersociety Board Chairman Emeka Umeagbalasi:

(1) Citizen Nnamdi Kanu of Radio Biafra & IPOB was arraigned before the Abuja Municipal Magistrate Court, Wuse Zone 2; on 19th October 2015 and granted bail.

(2) He was granted bail with stringent conditions including getting a civil servant of Grade Level 16 that has a landed property within Abuja metropolis and in the sum of N10 million as his bail surety.

(3) Citizen Nnamdi Kanu was charged with following alleged misdemeanor offenses. The Biafran leader was charged with Criminal Conspiracy, Managing and Belonging to Unlawful Society and Criminal Intimidation contrary to Sections 97, 97b and 397 of the Penal Code (which is applicable to the Northern Nigeria).

(4) The matter was adjourned to 18th of November 2015 for trial.

(5) That processes to fulfill the deliberate and stringent bail conditions have since commenced but could not be completed before the close of work yesterday (20-102015) and would continue today (21-10-2015).

Subsequently, all the bail conditions were fulfilled by Biafrans, yet the DSS continued to detain him extra judiciary, prompting the massive peaceful protests that have been rocking Biafran cities.

As a demonstration of solidarity to Kanu, many Biafrans will be in Abuja today. That is giving Nigeria great concern , who fear that Biafrans may stage a massive protests in Abuja today. This has prompted the Nigerian Army to threaten to apply "Rules of Engagement" on unarmed and peaceful protesters.

All markets in Biafra will also be closed in solidarity.
