Ojukwu Varsity Lecture: IPOB places bounty on Gowon's head. Declares him Persona Non Grata in Biafra

Ojukwu Varsity Lecture: IPOB places bounty on Gowon's head. Declares him Persona Non Grata in Biafra
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has placed a bounty on former Nigerian dictator Gen Yakubu Gowon (rtd) over war crimes he committed against Biafrans. This is following Gowon's intention to present a lecture at the Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu University Uli, Anambra State on the Biafra-Nigeria War.

The invitation of Gowon by the University authority and Gowon's willingness to attend is viewed by IPOB as a move to denigrate the name of  late Dim Ojukwu, the leader of Biafrans and a great insult to every Biafran that died through the orders of Gowon and those living.

The IPOB belives that the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor F.U. Okafor may have been wrongfully advised to extend invitation to Gowon, who deliberately starved millions of Biafran children to death. The IPOB believes that Gowon's sole mission at the occasion is to march on the grave of Ojukwu and has vowed to prevent this with every ounce in them. Consequently, Gowon has been declared a persona non grata in Biafra and preparations are in top gear to stop him on his tracks.

Gowon is a renowned mass murderer, who launched a genocidal war against Biafrans in the late '60s. His direct orders led to the deaths of over 3.5 million Biafran civilians especially children and women.

Callers of a Radio Biafra programme, monitored by a correspondent of The Biafran, expressed their indignation at the thought of seeing Gowon give lecture on Biafra from a University named after the late Biafran leader. An obviously infuriated caller from an Asian country placed a N2million on the table for anyone who would kill Gowon if he ventures to attend the convocation ceremony in Anambra State. The IPOB said they are prepared to die with Gowon on the day and are mobilising forces for this purpose.

Last week, the Biafran Reformist Movement (BRM), a group seeking for the freedom of Biafra from Nigeria issued a warning to Gowon not to venture into Biafra. Rising from their meeting in Enugu the group vowed to mobilise millions of Biafrans to protest against the inviatation extended to Gowon by the university on the Convocation day.

Speaking to newsmen after their meeting in Enugu, the Secretary-General of the BRM, Dr Chinemeze Odoziani, stated that invitation of Gowon to Ojukwu's University was the height of insult to Biafrans. He warned Gowon to steer clear of the event in his own interest as the BRM may not be able to contain the anger of Biafran youths who are poised to make sure Gowon or his representative are not allowed entry or given audience at the occasion.
Gowon on his part in an apparent bid to revise history has been going about making derogatory statements about Late Dim Ojukwu. In one of the occasions, Gowon stated that Ojukwu lied about the Aburi Accord.
