Analysing the political demise of Ngige

Analysing the political demise of Ngige
At last Senator Chris Ngige, former governor of Anambra State and the arrowhead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state has met his Waterloo.

Ngige's political demise began with his losing the governorship election conducted in the state 2013 to Governor Willie Obiano. The election clearly showed Ngige's quickly eroding political clout in Anambra State. However, Ngige carried on with an exaggerated sense of popularity until this final humiliation.

Ngige who once enjoyed overwhelming patronage among Ndi Anambra lost the confidence of the people when he aligned with the APC as against the indigenous All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).

The recent concluded senatorial election in Anambra Senatorial zone in which Ngige, the incumbent senator lost perhaps signifies his final demise in politics. Senator Chris Ngige representing Anambra Central at the senate, lost the seat to a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Uche Ekwunife of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Announcing the result on Monday in Awka, the Returning Officer, Dr Pius Okoye, a lecturer at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, stated that Ekwunife polled 101,548 votes, Chief Victor Umeh of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) garnered 77, 129 votes to come second while Sen. Chris Ngige of All Progressives Congress (APC) placed a distant third with only 20, 850 votes.

Ngige's woes and political downfall is a classic demonstration of fall from grace to grass.
