| Protesters storm n/assembly over Edo $75million loan request |
Edo State indigenes on Wednesday protested at the National Assembly urging legislators not to approve the $75 million loan request by the Edo state government.
General Muhammadu Buhari had on Tuesday wrote the National Assembly seeking the approval of a $75m loan being the second tranch of the $ 225m World Bank granted the Edo state government under the 2012-2014 external borrowings.
The protesters carried placards at the main entrance of the National Assembly some of which read: “Don’t approve the loan",
"We don't want loan"
"We want action".
Daily Trust reports that the protesters stormed the assembly at about 10.am when senators were going in for the day's legislative duties.
Meanwhile, the request for the loan was on Wednesday referred to the Senate standing committee on local and foreign debts.
The motion for the loan request was moved by the Senate leader, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume and it was seconded by Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda of FCT.
In ruling on the motion, the Senate President, Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki granted Ndume's request and referred it to the committee on debts.
