El Rufai to demolish the multi-billion Igbo-owned De Nevilla Hotel over some flimsy excuse |
One of the prominent hotels in Kaduna, the Nevilla has been earmarked by the Nasir El-Rufai-led Kaduna government. The multi-million naira property is owned by an Igbo-Speaking Biafran.
De Nevilla management has been given 9 days to vacate the site and demolition has been scheduled for next week.
The Kaduna government alleges that demolition is due to the fact that some parts of the building were in government land. However the land was leggally sold to them by previous governments.
El Rufai has a penchant for the demolition of properties of Biafrans. While serving as the FCT Abuja Minister between 2003 and 2007, he targeted Biafran businesses and properties for demolition. Many died as a result of his actions which led to the loss of billions of investments.
This another lesson for Biafrans who still consider investing outside Biafra a worthwhile venture. Barely few months ago, the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe admonished Biafrans to relocate their investments back to the Eastern Region. Speaking at a book presentation and inaugural conference of Ala Igbo Development Foundation (ADF) in Enugu on Thursday, Achebe said more than 70% of the investments of the Igbo-speaking Biafrans was scattered in other parts of Nigeria.
He said that the success of the Ndi Igbo in other parts of the country had often bred envy from their host communities and sometimes led to xenophobic attacks at any slight provocation.
“The more we take root in other lands, it generates envy from the host communities which often leads to xenophobic attacks on the Igbo.
“We must come back to Igbo land which is our base. We must begin to bring our investment back, rebuild and industrialise our land,’’ he said.
