Too early to attack Buhari's over lopsided appointments - Dozie Ikedife |
As other Biafrans are blasting General Muhammadu Buhari over his anti-Igbo policies, a supposed leader of the Supreme Council of Elders of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and a chieftain of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr Dozie Ikedife has called on Biafrans to be patient with Buhari to unveil his ministerial list before they accuse him of disregarding them.
In several series of key appointments Buhari has made, which even his media spokesman Femi Adesina acknowledged was unbalanced, Buhari has demonstrated his nepotistic and anti-Igbo tendencies
Although Ikedife admitted that the appointments made so far by Buhari did not favour the South-East zone, he asked them to exercise some patience with Buhari.
According to Ikedife, if it were to be a matter of competence, Ndigbo can even provide 80 percent of Buhari’s cabinet.
“It is clear to everybody that so far, Ndigbo have not got a fair share of the appointments which Buhari has made. However, let us not be too hasty as he still has many appointments to make,” he said.
This is not surprising considering that Ikedife's son works for Buhari.
Mr Dozie Ikedife (Jnr) was the Director of Contact and Mobilization of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and member of General Muhammadu Buhari Presidential Campaign team in Anambra State. He was quotated as saying he would have gone into self-exile if President Goodluck Jonathan had won the April 11 presidential election.
In his own reaction, former governor of Anambra State, Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife, who spoke from the United States told The Nation that he was short of words.
“I don’t understand what is happening and the motivation for what is happening,” he said.
Also reacting, Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Chief Yinka Odumakin blamed the president for not including other regions in his appointments.
“When he visited the United States, he made it clear that those who gave him 97 per cent votes cannot have the same thing with those who gave him five per cent votes. I do not think it is the best thing considering the mood of the nation now. I think the earlier he realized that, the better for the country. He should realize that ‘inclusivity’ brings stability,” Odumakin said.
