APC Forced Us to Write Results at Gunpoint - INEC Officer in Imo |
The Electoral Officer for Oru East LGA, Mrs. Emmanuella Opara astounded stakeholders including the state Returning Officer and the State Resident Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC] when she confessed that she and her colleagues were held hostage for several hours by elders, youths and thugs in the area and forced to write results of the governorship polls in favour of the APC.
Mrs Opara added drama to an already charged atmosphere due to the results emanating from Oru East which was being vehemently rejected by both agents of the PDP, APGA and UPP, when she said results were written at the risk of their lives.
The agents were insisting that the results were falsified and alleged that both the Electoral officer and the local government collation officer absconded from the area.
Their positions was corroborated when Mrs. Opara when she revealed that they were held hostage for several hours and that they were forced to write the results which they did to save their lives.
"We were held hostage by the elders of the area who took us to a house where we were forced to write the results of the governorship elections and I and the collation officer for the Oru East local government had no choice but to do what they asked us to do in order to save our lives because the people were very aggressive and that was why we could not do the collation in the other wards and had to come back to our office in Owerri".
The Imo State Governorship election was declared inconclusive by INEC.
