Jaja of Opobo was the first known richest man in this part of Africa currently called Nigeria. When Jaja reigned, there was no Nigeria. 

Born as Jubo Jubogha,born in 1821, was a prince and the founder of Opobo city-state, which now forms part of  River State.

From slave to king! Jaja of Opobo

King Jaja was a slave boy from Amaigbo, Nwangele LGA,  Imo State. He was brought to the Bonny Kingdom at the age of 12.

He was a hero who fought against 19th-century British imperial ambition in southern Nigeria.He died in 1891 on his way back from a forced exile in the West Indies.
