Hope the Ijaws have realised who their brothers are? |
Following the outcome of the Presidential election s far released, it appears only the Igbos massively supported President Goodluck Jonathan's bid to return to power. Jonathan swept the entire southeast with a landslide, even in the All Progressives Congress'-controlled Imo State.
Ndigbos massive support of Jonathan was a demonstration of love and their forgiveness of the role the Ijaws played against them during the Biafran-Nigerian War.
The Ijaws and other South-south states who were instrumental to the declaration of Biafra turned around to betray the Igbos. They joined ranks with the Yorubas and Hausa, who told them their major problems were the Igbos. The Yorubas and Hausa made the Ijaws and co not to see themselves as relatives of the Igbos. Even the Igbo-speaking Ikwerre actively made efforts to dissociate themselves from the Igbos by corrupting their own dualect of Igbo language. The likes of Edwin Clark and Anthony Enahoro actively fought against the Igbos in the press, while Isaac Adaka Boro, Diette Spiff, Ken Saro Wiwa and others fought against the Igbos alongside the Nigerian forces in the creeks.

Goodluck Jonathan concentrated all his efforts trying to please the North and the Southwest and literally abandoning the southeast. Most promises he made such as the 2nd Niger Bridge was never fulfilled. Despite, the Igbos roundly rejected Buhari and chose Jonathan damning all consequences.
The Yorubas and the North made known their hatred and open disdain of the Ijaws of the entire Niger Delta, with the results so far announced.
This is a very apt time for the Ijaws and other Niger Delta states to sit back and reassess their position in Nigeria. Only their oil and not their people are useful in Nigeria. At least that was the clear statement the Hausas, Fulanis, Yorubas and co made with their votes.
I do hope they now realised who their true brothers are?
Good morning Ndi Ijaw, Good morning Ndi Niger Delta.
