Enugu election result: A clear message to Mbaka |
Indeed Enugu people have sent a very loud and clear message to Rev Father Ejike Mbaka, who vigorously campaigned against them from supporting President Goodluck Jonathan.
Mbaka had in series of messages he sent to his congregation called on Enugu and Ndi Igbo to reject Jonathan. Mbaka had been enjoying the respect and patronage of many Igbo people until his acerbic attack on Jonathan and his indirectly urging them to vote for General Mohammadu Buhari (rtd) of the APC. Mbaka's attack on Jonathan was perceived in various quarters as a fallout of cold treatment he received from the wife of the president, who repeatedly rebuffed his entreaties to cozy up to the first family.
Enugu voters who were embarrassed by Mbaka's umbrage, used their votes to send him a very clear message. Jonathan got a total of 553003 out of the 616112 votes cast in Enugu, while Buhari got only14,157. Buhari's rejection in the southeast stems from the role he played in the killing of Biafrans during the Biafran-Nigerian War as well his jailing prominent Igbo politicians brief tyrannical junta of Nigeria in the early '80s.
Mbaka clearly overstepped his bounds and the implication of his foray into politics has left an indelible dent on his religious ministry.
