Shocker #1! Buhari begin to backtrack on election promises. Don't expect miracles - Buhari tells supporters
Nigeria's president-elect General Muhammadu Buhari has began to backtrack on some of his election promises. Buhari had vigorously campaigned on three core issues, which included his ability to miraculously stop the menace of Boko Haram, eradicate corruption in Nigeria and restore Nigeria's economy.

However, speaking to BBC correspondent Peter Okwoche (video shown below), Buhari stated that Nigerians should not expect miracles from him in restoring the economy or combating Boko Haram.

Okwoche asked, "You made a lot of promises to Nigerians, Have you thought about how you are going to go about fulfilling these promises?

To which Buhari responded he wouldn't have made the promises if he doesn't know how to go about fulfilling it. He retreated the three fundamental issues which according to him are Nigeria's biggest problems vis-à-vis unemployment, and corruption that has destroyed the economy. He however, crowned it all by imploring Nigerians not to expect miracles to happen within a couple of months after his assumption of office because it took 16 years for the PDP to have destroyed the country. Note that yet again he is still to articulate his strategies.

His is still ambiguous and slowly backtracking from his promises. Is he still expecting the blueprint being drawn up for him as he did during his military junta? Buahri's former aide-de-camp (ADC),, Mustapha Jokolo revealed that when they plotted to overthrow Shagari's regime, they contracted some individuals to prepare the blueprint of the administration for them. However, when the coup succeeded, the blueprint was not available. And Buhari's administration began to rock from one side to the other like a rudderless ship. According to Jokolo, "We commissioned Dr. Mahmud Tukur and Mamman Daura, Those were the people we were expecting to prepare the blueprints for us because they were seasoned people who might have some friends who will help us because, you see, you could not expose your plans to everybody. So we had to select few people we could trust and let them know what we were doing so that they can help us. These were the people that I knew. I do not know whether there were other people. They did not do it. We had no blueprint. So by the time we took over government, we didn't know what to do with the government. I told you we had to think of how we were going to do it. The enormity of the atrocities committed during the civilian regime was staggering and unbelievable. You didn't know who was right and who was wrong. So everybody was lumped together and put into jail with the hope of clearing those who are innocent and convicting those who are guiltyBut some of them as I told you, because of inexperience and exuberance, we started setting up military tribunals. And these tribunals went about doing things their own way; jailing people hundreds of years."

When questioned on the argument that his party the All Progressives Congress (APC), is riddled with highly corrupt individuals (who strongly supported his candidature) who are no different from those in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  he had vowed to go after, his countenance changed. On recovering, he stated that he made the promise and hope that people will give him the opportunity to see whether his efforts will be good enough or not [Is Bola Tinubu in trouble?].

With this obvious backtracking on his election promises, Buhari has not disappointed The Biafran, because sooner than we had expected, the euphoria among his supporters will start seeping away to be replaced with the stark reality of disappointment upon disappointment.

Buhari also let slip that Jonathan was intimidated out of office by the United States and in particular Britain. "I think he [Jonathan] has been talking to international community, especially United States and in particular Britain. . . and I think he is respectful of those countries and their leadership."

The sucker punch landed when he was asked how he was going to tackle Boko Haram, whether by hitting them hard or offering them peace, Buhari prevaricated before responding thus: "Hit them hard with what? Boko Haram . . .[pause] by the 14 of February we were to go for the election, were according to the government calculations in charge of 14 local governments. These are 14 local governments out of 774. If for 6 years the Nigerian law enforcement agencies including the military were not able to secure 14 local governments out 774, how can I promise miracles when I come? But with the cooperation of our neighbours Cameroon, Chad, Niger and the international community and the commitment we are going to get from the military it will take much shorter time. This is the second time the don't expect miracle' phrase has been used by Buhari.

Let's you forget, while campaigning, Buhari promised nothing short of miracles to Nigerians. He promised the following among other unlisted ones:

1) Stabilize oil prices at $100 a barrel

2)To reduce fuel price to N45 a litre

3) Provide free education to all Nigerian children

4) Pay the poorest 25 million people N5000 every month

5)Generate 40,000 megawatts of electricity in 4 years

6)Pay youth corpers for one more year after service

7)Provide one meal a day for all Nigerian students

8) Provide 3 million jobs in his first year

9)To make N1 to be equal to $1

10) Build 4 refineries in 4 years

11) End totally, the Insurgency of Boko Haram
