Ango Abdulahi is one of the brains behind Arewa Youths. While the Nigerian Army and other security apparatus are the attack dogs of the Arewa Oligarchy |
In early July, during an interview with the Punch Newspaper, Yarima Shettima is the president of the Arewa Youths Coalition that gave Igbo living in the North a three-month quit notice vowed that they shall bring the war to Nnamdi Kanu's doorstep and make sure he does not go unpunished. Barely two months after that threat was issued, the Nigerian Army dominated and controlled by Fulani and their Hausa collaborators came to Umuahia to assassinate Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). That was one of the blatant examples of the Nigerian Army aka Arewa Militants doing the bid of the Arewa Oligarchy.
During the interview Shettima stated thus: "We will not leave this issue to go like that. So, we are not also going to do anything that will contradict the laws of the land [using the Nigerian Army apparently is not contradicting the law established by the same Arewa military government in the heavily flawed 1999 constitution].
"We do not intend [not will not] to go violent. This is because we do not intend to make people suffer because of his antecedents. We will take the fight to him; to his domain by following all constitutional means. He claims he is a British citizen also. We will tell him a British can not come to Nigeria and run our country the way he is running it. We can’t accept that. We will tell him this is our home and we have no better place than here. I believe after this discussion, we will build a country we will all call our own."
Following this interview, Shettima, vowed again that IPOB leader of the Nnamdi Kanu, must not go unpunished. They declared him a terrorists. And just two days ago the Nigerian Army echoed the same by illegally branding Kanu and IPOB a terrorists organisation.
According to the report, the Arewa youth president said the group is reviewing the quit notice issued to the Igbos .
Shettima was quoted as saying: “The steps taken by the governors are commendable. One, we have since expected the governors to do what they are doing now. Nevertheless, it is better late than never
“What the Ohanaeze and other organisations that came out to denounce the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) are doing is commendable.
“We are also reviewing our own situation. We are going to have a meeting soon with other leaders of the coalition and come out with a clear position of things and what we intend to do in order to move forward,” he said.
The AYC president speaking in an interview with Nigerian Tribune, noted that Kanu is someone “who has terrorised the country”. He said: “We will go as far to ensure that we take him to the international court of justice. We will internationalise his case and ensure that this young man is declared a terrorist. He can’t be allowed to go just like that.
Nigerian Army committed GROSS ILLEGALITY by labelling IPOB a terror organisation
“To us, we are seeing what he is doing as a business venture. So, as far as we are concerned, a country should not be run as a banana republic where somebody can do anything and get away with it, without respect for the rule of law.”
However Shettima stated that the call for the evacuation of the Igbo from the north was not totally off the table.
“I am not saying we have completely removed the earlier condition that they should leave the north. However, the fact of the matter still remains that one, we are not violent.
“Secondly, we intend also to explore all necessary avenues and ensure that, at the end of the day, things are being done in accordance with the law,” he said.
Subsequently, on August 9, 2017, Arewa Youths threatened to paralyze government's’ activities, especially in 19 Northern States, if the Nigerian Government failed to arrest the IPOB leader over what it termed ‘lawlessness and youth agitations’ in various parts of the country.
The assembly who staged a protest in Abuja further threatened that if the Federal Government failed to get him apprehended it would mobilize over one thousand youths to stop governments’ activities in Northern States, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The Speaker of the AYA, Muhammed Salihu who disclosed this during the protest said the group came out after ten days ultimatum given to the government in its letters earlier addressed to the Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, alongside other Security Chiefs on why the IPOB leader must be arrested.
The protesters carried various placards which read, “Though our tough might differ, but in unity and brotherhood we stand; Individuals’ blood does not worth anything of Kanu” and many others. The protest began from Unity Fountain, Maitama down to the entrance of Aso Villa, Abuja.
Speaking further, Salihu said: “Basically we are here for the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu because he is causing lawlessness and youth agitations in various part of the country. Any youth under any group now is hiding under the Kanu agitation to perpetrate evils.”
“We are now watching the action of government because the ten days ultimatum has lapsed, if the Federal Government fails now, we will mobilize over one thousand youths from various parts of North to stop governments’ activities”, he stated.
Also speaking, the Clerk of the assembly, Desmond Minakaro said “the only way the October 1st can be averted is when the IPOB leader is not allowed to continue creating a State within a State which is against the constitution of our country.”
What the foregoing portrays is that the Nigerian military charged with protecting Nigerians have become an Ethnic Army poised to cleanse other ethnic nationalities in Nigeria opposed to the dictates of the Hausa-Fulani oligarchy. Nigerian Army is now similar to the then Serbian Army that committed genocides against other ethnic nationalities in the former Yugoslavia.
Therefore, we call on the world to come to our rescue before we are wiped out completely.
