The Nigerian government has rubbished devious attempts by Hausa-Fulani domination zealots epitomized by Nasir El-Rufai to vilify Nigeria's former Chief of Army Staff, General Azubuike Ihejirika, over frivolous and unfounded comments by a self-proclaimed Australian Negotiator, Dr Stephen Davis, who alleged that Ihejirika was a sponsor of Boko Haram.

The Nigerian government over the weekend disclosed that it did not have any plan to prosecuting any Nigerian for now based on the various allegations made by Davis. The government also denied hiring Stephen Davis, saying that it was not clear yet on his alleged status, as acting as a Boko Haram negotiator on its behalf.

Despite denials from Nigeria military headquarters, Maiduguri the capital of Bornu is at the verge of falling into the hands of the Islamic terror group Boko Haram. Residents of the town have been spotted in droves leaving town for the neighbouring state capital Damaturu.

Reuters news agency reported that apprehension among Maiduguri residents grew after the fierce fighting between the military and Boko Haram in Bama.

Travellers were seen besieging bus stations in the city seeking transport to Damaturu in Yobe State. It added that vehicles laden with passengers and their belongings were seen on the Maiduguri-Damaturu road.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) today re-positioned its stance from a passive defensive position to an active offensive position, to combat growing Russian influence in the Baltic region. At NATO summit in Wales, NATO announced the formation of the very high readiness Spearhead Force that could quickly deploy to various parts of the world.

Announcing this, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said, the "Spearhead Force would be made up of several thousand land troops ready to deploy within a few days. The troops would be backed by air, sea and special forces support, he said, with a command and control center and extra equipment in Eastern Europe."

This is coming on the string of denials that followed the capture of Bama by Boko Haram, evidenced by the fleeing of thousands residents to Maiduguri.
