Breaking: President Nkurunziza returns to Burundi after failed coup
Burundi President Pierre Nkurunziza has reportedly returned to Burundi after failed coup attempt on his government by dissident soldiers. This was announced by presidential office says on Twitter.

The Burundian Army has announced that the attempted coup against President Pierre Nkurunziza  by a dissident army chief has failed. The army are currently mopping up the capital in search of the dissident soldiers.

General Godefroid Niyombare, the Burundian general trying to overthrow the government of President Pierre Nkurunziza, Wednesday ordered the closure of Bujumbura airport and land borders. This is an attempt to stop President Nkurunziza, who is on his way back to Burundi from Tanzania.

Burundi President Pierre Nkurunziza, the son of a Tutsi mother and a Hutu father, was born with politics in his blood just a year after the country celebrated its independence from Belgium in 1962.

His father, Eustache Ngabisha, was elected to the national parliament in 1965 and later became governor of two provinces.

A renegade Burundian army general has announced a military takeover in the country. Using a private radio station, General Godefroid Niyombareh, who was fired by President Pierre Nkurunziza as the country's intelligence chief in February declared he is taking control of Burundi.
