Biafrans have the right to sue Nigeria for killing protesting Biafran Nationalists - Lawmaker
A member representing Onitsha North I state constituency in Anambra State House of Assembly, ANHA and Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary and Legal Matters, Hon. Chugbo Enwezor has said that the leadership of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB or the bereaved families of those killed by security agencies during protests by IPOB members for restoration of Biafra have the legal rights to sue the federal government for murder and claim damages.

He said it was quite unlawful and undemocratic for the police, soldiers or other security agents to open fire on those agitating for self determination because protest is part of democracy. Enwezor who spoke to newsmen yesterday in his private law firm in Onitsha, security agents cannot kill people except there is a court order to that effect, adding that there is no law that says that anybody must obtain permission to embark on peaceful protest, rather, the police can arrest the protesters if in the course of their demonstration they commit an offence.

In the same vein, the traditional prime minister of Igboland (Onowu Igbo), Chief Michael Ozua Okoye has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to leave the leader of IPOB, Kanu alone, based on the previous court orders. Okoye who spoke to newsmen in Onitsha, said Kanu is a true son of Ndigbo and should be allowed to go and look after his family, since he did not shoot anybody or staged any war against the government, but rather acted based on what he read in the book about self determination. According to him, “God will bring biafra by Himself, So, Kanu should endure what we and Ojukwu endured before, during and after the civil war”.
