Nnamdi Kanu in high spirit, POISED for historic court appearance |
Making this known through his lawyer, Barrister Vincent Egechukwu Obetta, who spent more than two hours with the Biafran leader at the Directorate of State Security (DSS) office in Abuja, late last week.
In an exclusive interview he had with Biafra Media Forum , Obetta said the Biafran leader was in high spirit in readiness for his court appearance on Monday, January 18, 2016. “He is in high spirit, he is okay, and he is in good spirit. You know like I keep telling you I am not a lawyer who will see something green and say it is white. As far as I am concerned, my client is healthy, he is in good spirit, and he sent his goodwill to all of you” he said.
Obetta also spoke on the news making the rounds that a new lawyer has been retained to take over the case, and explained that no such thing took place. He said it was the work of his detractors who wanted to distract him from the assignment, just to make him fail. He however promised Biafrans that he has resolved to remain focused on the job and not distracted.
“When I came in this case no lawyer was courageous enough to come out. But now that we have demystified the case and popularized Biafra, people want to shunt in. but my eyes are on the ball, especially when the world is telling me that I am doing well”.
He added: “As far as the Director, Nnamdi Kanu; the Deputy Director, Uche Mefor, have not withdrawn their retainer-ship, I am not moved. As far as the father of Nnamdi Kanu, who by all standards is a first class Igwe in Igboland is satisfied with me, I don’t have any reason to take my eyes off the ball”.
He said that Nnamdi Kanu had never been sick contrary to speculation in the social media. He also said that Kanu was not being tortured, and that he was not sleeping on bare floor. He wondered why some people would go to that extent in distorting truth. However, he urged Biafrans to continue to pray for Kanu because, according to him, their prayers had been working wonders and sustaining him in so many ways.
His words: “I want to thank everybody, and I want to enjoin the prayer band to continue to pray for the Director Nnamdi Kanu, it is their prayer that made him not to fall sick since the 14th of October that he was arrested. It was their prayers that kept him in the spirit I saw him today. It is their prayers that made him to keep his own eyes on the ball. It is their prayers that have sustained him and I want them to continue.”
Obetta also urged Biafrans to pray for him as well so that God will continue to endow him with all the wisdom needed in handling the case.
