Resurrection of defunct Eastern Region: We are one people, says S-east/S-south governors in Enugu as Edo, Delta (Mid West region) governors boycott Enugu meeting

• All former Eastern Region governors in attendance
• Midwest Governors boycott meeting
• Agree on political, economic integration

There appears to have been a resurrection of the defunct Eastern Region, which formed the basis for the Biafran Republic. In a meeting organised in Enugu all South South and South East governors attended, except Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, and Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, whose states were carved out from the defunct Mid West region.

There are indications on Friday, June 11, 2016 that about 200 military officers may have been sacked by 'General' Muhammadu Buhari. The officers are mainly from the South East and South South, with a few North Central region of the country, were reported to have been sacked via text messages (SMS) over their alleged loyalty to former President Goodluck Jonathan during the 2015 general elections.

The youths leaders of South South zone have thrown their support behind Biafra. The youth leaders also denounced the Conference of Ethnic Nationalities of the South-South, who recently met at  Uyo, Akwa Ibom state to dissociate themselves from Biafra self-determination.

The youth leaders of the South South region under the aegis of the COALITION OF SOUTH SOUTH YOUTH LEADERS met in Calabar on Friday, 21st November, 2015 and after appraising the situation in the country and the claim by some unauthorized persons who claimed to be South South leaders that the South South is not part of Biafra, hereby state as follows

The South South Voice, a pressure group in the Niger Delta, has described as unacceptable the way and manner the North and the West truncated the second term ambition of President Goodluck Jonathan and warned that the nation may face another round of crisis unless issues relating to alleged conspiracy against the people of the South South is addressed.
