Only one of the two pilots on ill-fated Germanwings flight 4U 9525 was inside the cockpit when the plane crashed, a German state prosecutor said, confirming earlier media reports.

A Germanwings flight carrying 142 passengers and six crew from Barcelona to Dusseldorf crashed Tuesday in the southern French Alps, aviation authorities said. Transport officials said there were no survivors.

The low-cost airline took off from Barcelona airport at 08:55 GMT, according to Spanish Airport operator AENA.
