A northern socio-political organisation, Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, has urged the Federal Government to check the activities of pro-Biafra groups in the South-Eastern part of the country as the nation could not endure another civil war.
ACF, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Muhammad Ibrahim on Wednesday, gave this warning while condemning last Tuesday’s attack on the Arewa community at Elelenwa Junction in River State by members of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra.
According to Ibrahim, the activities of the pro-Biafra groups could cause a crisis in the country if left unchecked.
The statement reads, “The attention of the Arewa Consultative Forum has been drawn to a fracas between some members of the Arewa community at Elelenwa Junction of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and the members of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra on Tuesday, November 11, 2015.
“The ACF learnt that the MASSOB activists were alleged to have disrupted the peace in the cattle market at Elelenwa Junction, Port Harcourt, where properties were alleged to have been looted.
“The prompt intervention of the security agencies saved the situation from degenerating into a communal conflict. The sad news was really disturbing considering the likely ripple effect it might have caused and its unimaginable consequences in other parts of the country.
“The ACF also called on the Federal Government to take a decisive action against any group or individuals that want to disrupt the unity and progress of the country.
“The ACF commends the security agencies for their prompt action just as it commended the Rivers State Government for taking necessary measures that brought peace to the Elelenwa Junction Market. The ACF also commends the state government for condemning the action of the MASSOB agitators.”
