Fulani 'Herdsmen' called my wife on the phone. Told her to warn me – Benue governor Ortom reveals

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State on Wednesday said that he had received messages from Fulani threatening him over the anti-open grazing law recently enacted by his administration.

Ortom stated this when he addressed members of National Council of Tiv Youths who protested to government house over what they described as ‘outburst and unguided utterances against Tiv nation and the Indigenes of Benue state by leaders of Fulani cattle rearers’.

Pandemonium broke out early morning on Friday in Makurdi when gunmen shot and killed the senior special assistant on security to Governor Samuel Ortom, Mr. Deneen Igbana in his private residence.

This came just as assailants has attacked the police C Division located in Northbank area of Makurdi and shot the Divisional police Officer (DPO) of the station and his orderly.

The Benue State governor, has finally declared that his state is under siege by Fulani terrorists. Samuel Ortom, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governor of the state has been very reluctant to condemn the Fulani atrocities in his state, because of their very close ethnic and political links with his party's leader, General Muhammadu Buhari. He fears he would be victimised by tyrannical Buhari, who has already lied that the terrorists were from Libya in order to shield them from prosecution.
