Defence headquarters can't declare IPOB a terrorist organisation- says HURIWA

A pro- Democracy and Non- Governmental organisation- HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (HURIWA) has warned that the Nigerian Military has increasingly become anti- democratic and assuming legislative powers just as the Rights group said the Defence Headquarters can't exercise a power they don't have picking and choosing when to grade any group a terror organisation.

On Monday, the 21st of March 2016, the Nigerian Defence Headquarters represented by General Abayomi Olonisakin inaugurated what it called a 12-man committee on human rights. It is not clear if the Defence Headquarters is acting based on Section-5(1) CAP A20 L.F.N. 2004 or that General Olonisakin is trying to save the life and career of the never-retiring Lt.-Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai who will end up at the prison yard, courtesy of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, just like his Commander-in-Chief, Retired Major General Muhammadu Buhari would soon go to jail as well in The Hague for human rights abuses and extra-judicial killings.
