N2 trillion 'loot recovery': Buhari's DSS arrests security expert who discovered looted funds in Buhari's accomplices bank accounts |
Uboh, according to findings was arrested on Tuesday after stern-looking operatives had raided his office and homes in Maitama in Abuja in search of sensitive documents relating to the short-lived recovery contract he was handed by the Buhari government, Vanguard reports.
The Nigerian government awarded Uboh the multi-billion contract to recover over N1.9 trillion hidden away in some banks in the country. The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Mr. Abubakar Malami, gave Uboh the job of recovering the huge sum of money, after he convinced the AGF that he had already sighted and tracked down the money in 13 banks.
Uboh swung to action after getting the government letter of authority to identify some of the loots hidden in about 13 banks in Nigeria by prominent Nigerian leaders and industry players. These prominent individuals then went to inform Buhari about the situation and Uboh's contract was abruptly terminated by the AGF. The AGF claimed that the contract was awarded to Uboh in error and that he violated the contract by expanding its terms (going after the banks and powerful individuals).

The AGF wrote to Buhari about this, detailing the reasons why he cancelled Uboh’s recovery job, which would have fetched him at least 5 percent of the recovered amount.
However, Uboh did not take the termination of the contract lightly and went on air to reveal the secrets, accusing the AGF of standing on the way of fighting corruption. He stated that he had already traced N324 billion within the 27 days that he was allowed to work and mocked the AFG for not allowing him to go after the affected banks and individuals to recover the amount.
Before his arrest, Uboh had last Tuesday appeared on a prime time television programme and poured invectives on the Buhari government for ending the job offer abruptly while still claiming to be fighting corruption. Based on this the DSS was sent to intimidate him into silence.
Vanguard learnt that the DSS would likely charge him to court for sundry criminal offences relating to the expansion of his brief to extort money from Nigerians.
