Ethnic Cleansing of minority nations in Northern Nigeria by Fulanis: Plateau youths condemn Buhari RESOUNDING silence 
General Muhammadu Buhari’s continuous indifference towards ameliorating the widespread killings in different parts of Plateau State by Fulani terrorists has been interpreted as a subtle nod to the perpetrators, by youths of the state who staged a protest to the Plateau State House of Assembly, demanding a stop to the carnage and maiming of people in the State.

In the wake of the killings, the House of Representatives had earlier mandated a joint committee to investigate the killing of over 53 people allegedly perpetuated by men of the Nigerian Army, also directing its committee on Defence to investigate the attack on communities in Barkin Ladi and other communities in the state.

The military in reaction to the allegation, denied any involvement in the attacks perpetuated in some villages in the State. This has sparked controversy from all quarters, especially as members of the State House of Assembly and senior religious leaders have cried foul.


Accusations and counter accusations have continued to trail the controversy, as the Tarok people have alleged that the attacks were plans to wipe out their people. Though the attackers are yet to be identified.

Amidst all these accusations, the military Special Task Force through its spokesman Captain Ikedichi Iweha, explained that the military had no hand in the attacks and is only involved in maintaining law and order as stipulated in its mandate.
In a clear attempt to condemn Buhari’s silence, the protesting youths under the aegis of “Plateau Youth Speaks” took their protest to the doorstep of the State Governor, Simon Lalong accompanied by Arch Bishop Benjamin Kwashi, seeking clarifications on the mandates being given to the military and demanding an immediate stop of the continuous killings.

The Middle Belt region of Nigeria, made up of many ethnic minorities who are predominantly Christians have become the sitting ducks of Islamic Fulani militia. The Fulani terrorists masquerading as herdsmen are bent on the eradication or at best subjugation of the Christian minorities in the Northern Nigeria, similar to complement the desire of Boko Haram. 
So far the indigenous people of the Middle Belt have failed to realise what is coming to them and have continued to remain docile amidst impending doom.
In reaction, Lalong insisted that he had continuously under took a one man protest to the door steps of the President, and was still anticipating a positive response. He also called for the protesting youth remain patient with the Buhari.


Lalong stressed that the federal government has already deployed military personnel and security adjustment to tackle the challenges.

The youths, however, lamented that if no urgent review of security measures is taken by Buhari, the killings might not cease.

Indigenes of the State had earlier staged a protest in Abuja, calling for the immediate intervention into the killings recorded in the last three months.

This was held during a candlelight procession at the Unity Fountain, Abuja where they gathered to mourn the death of their loved ones.

The group alleged that since 2010, when over 500 people were killed in an onslaught in Dogonahawa Village, the condition has worsened as gunmen attack villages at random, killing and destroying villagers’ means of livelihoods.

The protesters, who situated themselves at the Unity Gate and Transcop Hilton Hotel Abuja, succeeded in getting the attention of the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon and presented their petition to him. The protesters carried placards with thought-provoking inscriptions like, “How many more do we have to bury”, with a banner also bearing photographs of victims of the killings.
