There appears to have been a resurrection of the defunct Eastern Region, which formed the basis for the Biafran Republic. In a meeting organised in Enugu all South South and South East governors attended, except Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, and Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, whose states were carved out from the defunct Mid West region.

Veteran musician, Onyeka Onwenu has blasted South East governors for their cowardice towards the call for a Biafran self-determination referendum. According to Onwenu, who became an ardent Biafran, after her ugly experience in the hands of Huasa-Fulani people, while she served as executive director/chief executive officer of the National Centre for Women Development, stated this in a piece titled:  "Southeast a peaceful region, a criminal silence of all southeastern governors, states assemblies, senators and house reps."

It has been revealed that Nigeria's Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi personally wrote the Nigeria's National Assembly to request for the deduction of a total of N1.9billion from various projects meant for Enugu and Abia states. This was to enable him in order to pad the budgeted amount for Baro Port Project in Niger State in Northern Nigeria.

Igbo governors met today at Enugu to discuss the Biafran uprising. They however, failed to condemn General Muhammadu Buhari from unleashing Nigerian Army and police on peaceful Biafran protesters. The governors rather prefered to advise Biafran youths to embrace peace.

According to the governors  toeing the line of peace was the only way to ensure lasting peace in the land.
