Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe State has rubbished the claim credited to his Borno State counterpart, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, who reportedly told last Wednesday’s National Economic Council (NEC) in Abuja that “five local government areas in the two states are still under Boko Haram control.”

Currently sans oil resource North East Nigeria has demanded for 13% oil derivation funds from Muhammadu Buhari. 13% oil derivation was meant to cushion the environmental and health impacts of oil exploitation on the oil producing states in Nigeria. However, the Borno State governor, Kassim Ibrahim, yesterday asked to the president-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), to allocate 13% of petroleum revenue to the North East region which according to him has been ravaged by insurgency when he assumes office.

The Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima has been fingered as a prominent sponsor of the Boko Haram.

Amidst the alleged role the governor played in the kidnap of the Chibok girls, the Power Steering magazine reported that Governor Shettima was behind the killing of late Alhaji Awana Ngala, former ANPP chairman in Borno State, who was tipped to succeed former governor Ali Modu Sheriff as well as Engr. Modu Fannami Gubio, the gubernatorial candidate of the ANPP, who was killed barely one week after he was appointed to succeed Modu Sheriff in the 2011 general election.
