We do not consider IPOB a terrorist organisation - United States slams Nigerian government
The United States government has slammed the Nigerian government for classifying the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) a terrorist organisation. The US, speaking through the American Embassy in Nigeria, says it does not consider IPOB a terrorist organisation.

According Russell Brooks, spokesperson of the US embassy the US government does not think IPOB is a terrorist group. However Brooks said his country is committed to the unity of Nigeria and would support a peaceful resolution of its crisis.

“The United States Government is strongly committed to Nigeria’s unity. Important political and economic issues affecting the Nigerian people, such as the allocation of resources, are worthwhile topics for respectful debate in a democracy.

“Within the context of unity, we encourage all Nigerians to support a de-escalation of tensions and peaceful resolution of grievances. The Indigenous People of Biafra is not a terrorist organisation under US law,” Brooks said even though he did not confirm if the Nigerian government had requested that IPOB be blacklisted.
