How FAKENews Punch turned attack at a police checkpoint to an attack at a Church

The Punch Newspaper is unrelenting in their media attack against Ndi Igbo. In one of such brazen misinformation, Punch published a story earlier today with the heading:

BREAKING: Gunmen attack another Anambra church. Kill poilceman and civilian.

The report started thus: "Gunmen on Sunday struck at the Assemblies of God Church on the Oguta road Onitsha, Anambra State killing one policeman and a civilian.

This is coming seven days after gunmen attacked St Philips Catholic Church, Ozubulu and killed no fewer than 13 persons and injured 27."

However, that was not the case. The true story was that gunmen attacked a police checkpoint near the church. But in order to dehumanize Ndi Igbo, Punch decided to move the attack to a church. This is the height of journalistic rascality.

To butreess that Punch knew exactly what it was doing, towards the end of the report, Punch stated: "The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr Garba Umar confirmed the incident to journalists.

"He said it was not an attack on the church, adding “My men were on patrol near the church when they were attacked by some gunmen. It was not an attack on the church, in the real sense of it”.

So why did Punch went ahead to report that it was an attack on the Church, even when the police confirmed to them that it was not an attack on the Church?

Punch has not revise the title of the report to  "Gunmen kill policeman, civilian in Anambra"

However, the damage has been done. Every other newspaper that has reported the incident after Punch has taken the same line of attack on the church, without verification.

How Yoruba media wants to sink Ndi Igbo

My people have you noticed that recently almost every distasteful and discouraging news seems to be coming from the South East and mostly involves Igbos? 

Ndi Igbo you are not only at war and under threat from the Northern Nigeria power block *but also the Western Nigeria media*. 

*It's not a coincidence, It's propaganda!*

When you're looking for a reason to destroy a people *you need to dehumanise them first*. Only when you can see them as less than human *will you be able to accept or justify any horror inflicted on them*. 

That is why the new Hausa song is so dangerous. *But the persistent demonization and dehumanisation of Igbos is far more devastating and deadly* because it's not just opening you up to attacks from outsiders it's also making you *despise your origin and distrust your own people*. It's even more deadly because you're not aware you're being manipulated. 

*When last did you see them publish any of the many exploits of young Igbos?*

*Are there no sordid news concerning the Yorubas and others?*

Igbos are excelling in technology and the arts, doing very well in education and commercially *but the constant news we get to hear is how we are dupes, thieves, kidnappers, killers and drug pushers*.

This is not just that they are after news that will sell papers for them. *It's a classic political move.*

_Why is it so frequent at this point in time? What are they really after?_

*Did you know there was a major clash in a Yoruba state recently that hundreds brutally lost their lives?*

*Why are we not drowning in the flood of graphic images of the victims of Badoo cultists?* 

This message is for you to be aware of who you are dealing with and to *be discerning on what you accept as truth from the major Nigerian media houses.*

We should also *take charge of our own narratives as much as possible* if we must escape their agenda.

Please pass this message on to your fellow Igbo. *It's time to wake up.*

Gunmen on Sunday struck at the Assemblies of God Church on the Oguta road Onitsha, Anambra State killing one policeman and a civilian.

This is coming seven days after gunmen attacked St Philips Catholic Church, Ozubulu and killed no fewer than 13 persons and injured 27.

An eyewitness account told our correspondent that the gunmen had momentarily stopped at the Assemblies of God Church, but on sighting some policemen at the church, opened fire on them.

“When the firing became too hot, the policemen abandoned their patrol vehicle and ran away for safety.

“The gunmen moved to their patrol van and took a gun belonging to the policeman they killed.

“I saw two of the gunmen but I can’t say how many they are in number.

Another eyewitness said, “Gunmen on Okada (motorcycle) shot a policeman and collected his rifle. They also shot dead an Okada man while escaping, and the passenger he was carrying was injured. The policeman was the one armed among his colleagues; they were providing security while church service was going on at Assemblies of God Church, Oguta road Onitsha.

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr Garba Umar confirmed the incident to journalists.

He said it was not an attack on the church, adding “My men were on patrol near the church when they were attacked by some gunmen. It was not an attack on the church, in the real sense of it”.

The commissioner confirmed that the hoodlums took away a rifle belonging to the slain cop.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige had on Saturday said the Federal Government would work out modalities on how to secure places of worship in the country.

Leading a federal government delegation to commiserate with the people of Anambra State on the Ozubulu shooting, Ngige said that had become expedient following incessant attacks on places of worship.
