The recent invasion of Kofar Ruwa iron and rod market by chairman of Dala Local Government Council, Alhaji Suleiman Dan Isli is a clear demonstration of active plan of the Hausa-Fulani oligarchy to sabotage Igbo economy and businesses. This move followed series of fire outbreaks that has destruction igbo shops across Kano in the recent months. Igbo traders at the market locked their shops on Friday  and ran away for fear of being attacked when Alhaji Suleiman Dan Isli, invaded the market with hundreds of armed bandits in his bid to erect illegal shops in the market.

Speaking to journalists at the market on Sunday, KRIRDA President, Chief Anayochukwu Ike described as improper, the decision of the chairman of Dala Local Government Area to build lock-up shops in the frontage of their shops. According to him, carrying out such project will not only disorganize the entire market, but will also make it impossible for trailers bringing in their goods to have access into the market, adding that the frontage of their shops remain the only space they keep iron and rods.

According to him, even when the Council authorities insisted on erecting the building, “we decided to discuss with them on the possibilities of even buying the space so that peace can reign. At the initial stage, we agreed with the Committee set up by the Council chairman that we would pay N300, 000 for each space, but to our surprise, they came back and jacked the money to N850, 000.” Chief Ike who said members of his association pay all taxes and levies to the state and local government as at when due, lamented that erecting another structure within the market means getting them out of business.

“If there are plans to relocate us, they should come out clear and explain to us. There is no way we can remain in this market with those structures there, unless they have decided to get us out of business; may be, because they don’t like our face. We have been in this market for a very long time. We have maintained cordial relationship with the authorities of Dala Local Government. We have been generating revenue for the development of the Local Government and Kano state government. We now wonder why they want to stampede us out of business,” Chief stated.

This act is in line with secret plan to frustrate Biafrans across Nigeria. This was revealed in shocking phone conversation between a Hausa-Fulani and a Yoruba accomplice. A shocking yet revealing phone conversation between two politicians has gone viral.

The invasion has continued to raise dust as Force Headquarters, Abuja, has already ordered a full-scale investigation into the matter. Information reaching 247ureports indicate that the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in-charge of Zone 1 and Kano State Commissioner of Police have been ordered by higher authorities to fully investigate the activities of Dala Local Government chairman, Alhaji Dan Isli, who last Friday, invaded Kofar Ruwa iron market with thugs and miscreants armed with knives, arrows and other dangerous weapons.

The chairman who caused commotion in the market also dug foundation and commenced illegal erection of the lock-shops on the pathways of the Alphamic Line section of the rod market. 247ureports learnt that it was almost a riot situation as traders locked their shops and people ran helter-skelter. Since that day, economic activity in the multi-billion Naira market has remained at a very low pace as most traders decided to away from the market for fear of being maimed or killed.

Meanwhile, Chief Alphonsus Ubaneche, member, Board of Trustees (BoT), Kofar Ruwa Iron and Rod Dealers Association, (KRIRDA), whose office is located on the affected Alphamic line speaks on the need for Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and other stakeholders to stop the chairman of Dala Local Council from altering the original master plan of Kofar Ruwa iron and rod market.

His words: “I am deeply disturbed and surprised over what is happening. I keep on wondering why Dala Local Government chairman is taking this action. I have been in this Kofar Ruwa market since 1987, that is over 29 years; and I am aware that this market has existed for the past 35 years. The market has a master plan, and it has never been changed over the years. Many governments have come and gone, many council chairmen have come and gone and this market, and in particular, the Alphamic line has been as it is—why now that the Dala Council chairman has decided to destroy the market by building lock-up shops on the main road! This is unfathomable and I keep on wondering what his reasons are.

“In fact, let me reveal to you that I personally service that very Aphamic line where they are erecting the illegal structures. That is where my office is located and I am affected. Go and ask, every year, particularly during rainy season, I personally finance the servicing of that Alphamic line; that is, after paying taxes and levies and sorts of revenue imposed on us. Now, if you go ahead and build those shops on the main road, how are trailers going to bring in our goods? How would there be orderliness in the market. We all know what has been happening, in case of emergency, say, a fire incident, how would people and vehicle gain access in and out of the market? So, I want to insist that something must be done about it. Now, if you talk about revenue, like I told you, we are even being over-tasked. Each trailer loading and off-loading in this market pay N2000.

Kano state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje
“There are other levies too that run on daily basis. Let me also tell you that when you stop people like us from doing business, you should not think it is all about us or it is all about me. In this market, more than 30 people from different tribes in this country are directly or indirectly on my employment. This is where they get their daily bread, so I believe something should be done urgently to stop this injustice.

"It is improper to even ask us to pay for the space, a pathway and frontage of our shops and offices which has been as it is for over 45 years. What an injustice! We are not paying a dime and the Dala council chairman should be advised to concentrate on matters that will bring needed development in the council and stop this controversial project that is threatening the peace of the people.

"So, what we are saying is that Governor Ganduje should intervene and stop the Council chairman from erecting those illegal structures on the main road. We must have access to the market; we must have access to our offices. In this matter, we owe Dala Local Council nothing; they should leave our market alone. Government as an institution is designed to pursue the welfare of the people, not to frustrate them.”

According to Chief Anayochukwu Ike, after exhausting all possible means of negotiation, “when they remained adamant, we went to Court and got an injunction restraining the Council authorities and their representatives from erecting any structure within the market, but immediately the injunction expired, they started digging holes in front of our shops. Last Friday, they came with Yandabas (area boys), armed with arrows and knives as they were digging foundation in front of our shops. That action brought serious tension within the market and the entire state as many of us hurriedly locked our shops and ran for dear life.”

Chief Ike said not even several appeals by the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone One could stop Dala Local Government chairman, Alhaji Suleiman Dan Isli from building illegal lockup shops in the market, blocking shops and offices. He, however, appealed to Governor Ganduje and other stakeholders and opinion leaders in Kano state to wade into the matter and stop the erection of more structures in Kofar Ruwa rod market, “because if they go ahead to build that shop, they have crippled our markets.

“Besides, we all know the dangers inherent in jam-packed markets. We don’t sell Crayfish, what we sell are iron and rods which are naturally packed in open space, now if you come and block that space simply because you want to generate revenue, how and where do we then pack our goods; we are very much worried and we call on Governor Ganduje to use his good office to save our business,” he appealed. 247ureport.com reports that worse hit in the intrusion is the Aphamic Line of Kofar Ruwa rod market where foundation were dug just in the front of the traders offices and their goods exposed at the mercy of criminals. Investigations also revealed that if the state government delay further in calling Dala Council chairman to order, the traders are threatening to embark on a violent protest that will negatively affect the relative peace being enjoyed in the state.
