Boko Haram terrorists on horseback slaughter villagers in Yobe State

Apparently invigorated Boko Haram terrorists have launched a deadly attack on a community in Yobe State. The terrorist who were on horseback attacked Zango village, Gulani Local Government area, and shot dead a number of villagers.

At least eleven people were killed and many more wounded according reports from vigilante members and residents said.

Daily Trust reports that the incident happened on Tuesday around 11:00 pm when the attackers set ablaze houses and shot indiscriminately at people trying to escape the burning flames.

“The gunmen came on horses around midnight, set ablaze our houses and opened fire on the people trying to escape. They chased people and opened fire on them,” a vigilante who did not want to be named said.

He said that similar attacks took place in the neighbouring villages where over 20 people were killed.

The medical Director, Sani Abacha Specialist Hospital Damaturu, Dr. Garba Fika confirmed that the attacked victims were brought to the Hospital, “And, they are responding to free treatment,” he said

“Last two weeks, the militants sacked a cluster of villages around those areas, including Gurum and Dokshi where over 20 people were killed and many injured. The injured are currently receiving treatment at Damaturu Specialist hospital,” he said.

Reports have it that the Boko Haram’s six-year terrorism in North-eastern Nigeria has led to the death of over 20,000 people, destroyed more than 1,000 schools and displaced more than 2 million people.

The terror attacks have kept about one million children out of school in Nigeria, particularly in the three neighbouring states, according to the UN children’s agency.
