Jubilation as Nnamdi Kanu finally appear in court

The Nigerian secret police, the Directorate of State Security (DSS) after dilly dallying finally produced Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in court today.

Kanu is being charged for misdemeanor. Having found him guilty of nothing, the Nigerian government  charged  with a very flimsy accusation.

The counsel to illegally detained Biafran freedom fighter, and director of the Radio Biafra gave details of his secret arraignment, details of the charges against him and the stringent bail conditions.

In an inadvertent justification for the restoration of Biafra, Nigeria could not find any offence tangible to charge Kanu with. It rather charged him for alleged misdemeanor offenses: Criminal Conspiracy, Managing & Belonging to Unlawful Society and Criminal Intimidation contrary to Sections 97, 97b and 397 of the Penal Code (which is applicable in Northern Nigeria).

Barrister Vincent Egechukwu Obetta gave the details this morning in a mail sent to International Society for Civil Liberties & the Rule of Law (Intersociety), which has been in the forefront of the struggle for Kanu’s release by the Department of State Security (DSS).

According to Obetta in the mail made available to News Expresss by Intersociety Board Chairman Emeka Umeagbalasi:

(1) Citizen Nnamdi Kanu of Radio Biafra & IPOB was arraigned before the Abuja Municipal Magistrate Court, Wuse Zone 2; on 19th October 2015 and granted bail.

(2) He was granted bail with stringent conditions including getting a civil servant of Grade Level 16 that has a landed property within Abuja metropolis and in the sum of N10 million as his bail surety.

(3) Citizen Nnamdi Kanu was charged with following alleged misdemeanor offenses. The Biafran leader was charged with Criminal Conspiracy, Managing and Belonging to Unlawful Society and Criminal Intimidation contrary to Sections 97, 97b and 397 of the Penal Code (which is applicable to the Northern Nigeria).

(4) The matter was adjourned to 18th of November 2015 for trial.

(5) That processes to fulfill the deliberate and stringent bail conditions have since commenced but could not be completed before the close of work yesterday (20-102015) and would continue today (21-10-2015).

As part of Muhammadu Buhari's way of intimidating and terrorizing Biafrans, Kanu,was arrested by DSS in Lagos last week Wednesday, October 14, and moved to Abuja, where he was taken court and secretly arraigned on Monday. Kanu. who arrived from his London base early that morning, was arrested at Golden Tulip Essential Hotel, Ikeja Lagos, at 10:45 a.m. after the security agents broke into all the hotel rooms in search of him.

Parts of the South-East and South-South (Biafra) were yesterday rocked by protests over his arrest and detention.

An excited Biafran, Prisca Chiamaka Abel took to her facebook page to express her joy at seeing Kanu in court: "We the IPOB have shown the world how resolute and formidable we are by holding our peaceful protest, we make sure that we didn’t violate the law in the republic called Nigeria. ONLY IF THEY HAVE OR PRACTICE ONE… When they saw how determined we are ,they have no option to bring him alive and healthy. As it stands now our leader Nnamdi kanu is in court with some of our ipob members!!!. We are Waiting for good news soon. Chukwuabiama we give you praise"
