Police Clampdown will HARDEN IPOB, MASSOB to take up arms – Constitutional Lawyer warns Buhari

Police Clampdown will HARDEN IPOB, MASSOB to take up arms – Constitutional Lawyer warns Buhari
An Aba-based constitutional lawyer, Ebere Uzoatu, has warned the Nigeria police over their incessant attack and harassment of the members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB).

The police recently began a clampdown on the members of IPOB, disrupting their meetings.
In this interview with Oriental News, Uzoatu warned the police over their actions against IPOB, saying that if they do not desist from it they may harden the movement to becoming a violent group.
He also speaks on other issues. Excerpts:

Buhari’s administration has clocked 100 days, are you happy with the achievements so far?
I am not happy with the government of Buhari within these 100 days. I am saying this because Buhari has disappointed us in the economic arena and the politics behind his politicking is not good. Look at the economy, its in shambles, the naira has depreciated to an appreciable extent, the rate between the dollar and the naira is something else and this is because Buhari has not made open the list of his ministers and even if he will do so this September as he has promised, that will be after the golden horse had bolted because Nigeria has lost billions if not trillions of naira within these three months or there about he did not appointed ministers.

What’s your reaction on the seemingly lopsided appointment so far made by President Buhari?
I am more than pained about this development because the Igbo really fought for the independence of this country more than any other geopolitical zone. You mention people like Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Mazi Mbaonu Ojike, Mbazulike Amaechi and the rest of them.  Some of them even went to prison because of the entity called Nigeria, how can Buhari tell Ndigbo that there are no good people among us that he could appoint into his kitchen cabinet, it’s not fair. He should mend fences because what he has done is an impeachable offence; it runs contrary to the Constitution of Nigeria as regards federal character.

The Federal Government through its security apparatus appeared to have singled out IPOB and MASSOB among other militia groups in the country to be dealt with, are you comfortable with this?
As far as I’m concerned, the Constitution of Nigeria gives persons of like minds the opportunity to associate among themselves. IPOB and MASSOB in as far they are not violent can never ever be unlawful organizations.
