Emir Of Kano, Sanusi Secretly Marries 18-Year-Old Adamawa Princess

Emir Of Kano, Sanusi Secretly Marries 18-Year-Old Adamawa Princess
The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi on Friday, September 25, 2015 has secretly married the 18-year-old daughter of the Lamido of Adamawa, Muhammadu Barkindo-Musdafa.

Premium Times reports that the wedding to the 18-year old Princess, Sa’adatu took place without the presence of the Emir, but a delegation which had the Governor of Kano and the Wakili Kano was in attendance.

The 18-year-old will be the Emir’s 4th wife, with reports having it that JKano Governor Abdullahi Ganduje acted as the father of the groom while his Adamawa counterpart, Jibrilla Bindow played the role of the father of the bride, giving Sa’adatu’s hands out in marriage to Sanusi.

A top member of the Kano State delegation to the wedding in Yola was quoted as saying:

“His decision to take a new wife is in line with Islamic injunction. Islam allows having a maximum of four wives for those who can treat all of them equally and provide for a large family.”

Dan’Almajiri Ibrahim, a social commentator also said the marriage will strengthen the bond between Kano and Adamawa States, which were both in the same region during the Uthman Dan Fodio jihad

Ibrahim said: “So, the engagement of the Adamawa princess to Emir Sanusi II may also be a move to deepen royal bond between Adamawa and Kano.
“You see, historically, both emirates have similar origins in the 19th Century Uthman Dan Fodio’s jihad”

Emir Sanusi could not be reached for comments as he is currently in Saudi Arabia, observing the annual hajj, where he is acting as the leader of the Nigerian delegation.

It would be recalled that reports had earlier emerged in January 2015 that the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) was making plans to the then 17-year old, the reports were immediately rebuffed by the Emir.

Sahara Reporters had reported:

“The Emir of Kano stated that he fully supports the right of children not to get forcibly married before attaining the constitutionally stipulated age of 18 years.

“He further stated that he has not and will not contract a marriage with any woman under 18.

“He said the stories making the rounds were only meant to know his intentions. While not totally ruling out the possibility of marrying a fourth wife, the Emir advised people to wait to see the real age of his wife if he decides to contract another marriage.”

The reports also resurfaced in June with no official rebuttal.
