Nepotism reloaded! Buhari confirms Hausa-Fulani Ahmed Idris as Accountant General of Nigeria. AGF the position for Hausa/Fulani and Yorubas
General Muhammadu Buhari, has finally sealed the appointment of a new Accountant General of the Federation.

The announcement was contained in a statement signed by Haruna Imrana, the director communications, office of the head of civil service of the federation on Thursday, June 25.

Ahmed Idris, a former director of finance was named the new AGF.

The statement reads: “The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation Barrister Danladi Kifasi who announced the appointment said that the appointment is with effect from 25th of June 2015.”

The statement also revealed that Idris, who hails from Kano state, was born on November 25, 1960, and was until his appointment, the Director of Finance and Accounts, Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development.

In his first major strike, General Muhammadu Buhari wielded the big stick against the Yorubas. when he sacked Yoruba-born Accountant General of the Federation, Mr. Jonah Ogunniyi Otunla and replaced with a Hausa-Fulani underling Mohammed Dikwa as Acting Accountant General. in an acting capacity.

With the confirmation of new AGF, Yorubas have finally lost out. Buhari is renouned for his nepotism and it is not surprising that the first major appointment he has made was to a fellow Northerner.

Out of 10 previous Accountants General of the federation since our independence, the Yorubas have produced 6; the Hausa/Fulani stock have produced 3, while Edo State produced one!
Ebere Nwokoye notes that Mr. F.R Cardoso, from Lagos State was the first Accountant General of the federation, served from the 9th of July 1963 and remained so until the end of July, 1973, a whopping 10 solid years! He was succeeded by C.E.T Nylander, also from Lagos State, who served for barely one year as his tenure ended on 31st of August, 1974. Alhaji W.T Dambo, from Kaduna State took over the mantle from the 31st of August, 1974 until the end of August 1982, a wholesome eight years!

Mr. I.I Iyeyemi, from Edo State stepped in and served from August 1982 until January, 1987. He was succeeded by Chief S.O Olusemo, from Ondo State, who served from January 1987 up till October 1995, a solid eight years! Thereafter, Alhaji M.A Argungu from Kebbi State (1995 – 1999); J.K Naiyeju, from Ondo State (1999 – 2005), Ibrahim Dankwambo, from Gombe, (2005 – 2010), A.D. Ogunsanya, from Osun State (2011 – 2011), and the retiring Chief Jonas Otunla, from Oyo State (2011 – 2015) took their turns in that succession.
