According to information reaching verbatim, this is due to the rising
and very fierce dissatisfaction and disappointment, which are
dangerously trailing his government.
As it stands, Verbatim’s investigation reveal that most elites of the
state blame the Archbishop of Owerri Catholic Diocese, Dr. Anthony
J.V Obinna for indirectly preparing the ground for Okorocha and for
convincing them he is the true rescuer of Imo State through church
sermons and the debate he organized for all the gubernatorial
candidates in the state shortly before the 2011 elections where the
immediate past governor, Ikedi Ohakim was hardly allowed to market
himself as his speech was swallowed by thunderous jeering and name
calling which they allege Bishop Obinna intentionally allowed as the
moderator of the debate.
Verbatim gather that before the debate, Archbishop Obinna allowed
hatred and contempt to build against Ohakim who was accused of
flogging a catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Eustace Okorie whose car ran
into the governors convoy. Even Governor Ohakim’s denial of knowledge
of the arrest of the Rev. Fr. and the subsequent humiliation
alleggedly meted to the priest did not calm the situation or even
alter the impression of the bishop who allegedly tongue lashed Ohakim
who was accompanied by his entire exco and cabinet to tender apologies
to the Bishop and the catholic faithful in the state .
Verbatim however gather that the uproar and controversy which the
above generated especially among the Catholics who constitute about
three quarter of the Imo electorate and the alleged ill moderated
debate forced the re-election bid of Ohakim into a nose dive thereby
making Okorocha a saint and the ordained rescuer of Imo State which
led to his victory over the incumbent Ikedi Ohakim after the
supplementary polls which was conducted at Ohaji/Egbema, NgorOkpala
and Mbaitoli local government areas in May, 2011.
Another reason why Governor Okorocha emerged Verbatim was told was
that the then Governor Ohakim did not initially support President
Jonathan who was locked in a battle of being confirmed the Acting
President when President Umaru Musa Yar’adua was ill in Saudi Arabia,
precisely with the first Lady, Turai Yar’adua, James Ibori, then
governor Delta State and Mr Aandooaka, the then Attorney General of
the federation at the fore front.
Verbatim was told that Ohakim’s initial tilt towards the anti
Jonathan forces then was not lost on President Jonathan who never
trusted him again even after Ohakim criss-crossed into the Jonathan’s
camp upon the death of President Yar’adua.
Based on the above, Verbatim was told that the PDP hierarchy
allegedly paid lip service to the Ohakim re- election project and
diplomatically sat on the fence while most of the party stake holders
most tactfully worked against him which thickened the Rochas Camp.
Again, Verbatim gathered that Ohakim’s denial of electoral tickets to
Mrs Ijeoma Nwafor, daughter of Prof. Maurice Iwu, who was targeting
the house of Representatives and Chief Cosmas Iwu , former SSG under
Ohakim and younger brother to Prof. Iwu who wanted the senate pitched
him against Prof. Iwu, then INEC Chairman, who had so much influence,
both at the federal and State Levels and who information say
contributed immensely to his emergence as the governor even on a
Peoples’ Progressive Alliance, PPA platform. The final nail on
Ohakim’s ambition then was his attempts to deny senator Chris Anyanwu
the senatorial seat ticket she won twice against Dr. Kema Chikwe who
Ohakim preferred as the party’s senatorial candidate for Owerri zone
thereby forcing senator Chris Anyanwu into APGA and into the waiting
arms of Okorocha who was then contesting under APGA. Chris Anyanwu
again won Dr. Kema Chikwe at the main election. Verbatim was told that
was why Senator Chris Anyanwu used her radio station, the hot 99.9 FM
to monitor the elections and repeatedly announced results from
individual polling booths which killed any intention to rig the
elections or alter the results in any way.
Verbatim also gathered that Senator Anyanwu who heads the senate
committee on Navy also deployed naval officers who stopped every
electoral fraud and violence, thereby paving the way for Okorocha to
emerge as governor.
Verbatim recalls that the entire Imo State especially Owerri went agog
when Okorocha was named the winner and the next governor of Imo State
after the supplementary elections. People were happy, hopes were high,
expectations were high and the people were full of praises for God
and the electoral process for giving them a messiah in Imo.
Verbatim was told that Governor Okorocha who promised so much in an
emotion laden voice during his swearing in ceremony at the Dan Anyim
Stadium on the 29th of May, 2011, committed his first blunder in
office barely two weeks after assuming office when he sacked Cletus
Ilomuanya, a very respected monarch and chairman, Imo State council of
traditional rulers and his entire exco for allegedly working for the
then Governor Ikedi Ohakim during the 2011 campaigns. Ilomuanya has
not forgiven him for the embarrassment and has been fighting hard to
reclaim his seat from Samuel Agunwa Ohiri who the governor appointed
to replace him as the chairman of Imo state council of traditional
rulers .
In a recent interview with verbatim, Ilomuanya said emphatically said
that there is no government in Imo and accused governor Okorocha of
lawlessness, fraud, lies and deceiving the Imo people who so much
trusted in him. He claimed he is still the Chairman of the Imo State
Council of traditional rulers which he said has been upheld by a high
court in Owerri emphasising that he cannot wait for Governor Okorocha
to leave office and for God to truly bless the state with a genuine
rescuer.
